Michael C. Diem, MD, Director
Mike joined SR One in 2005 and is a Kauffman Fellow. He currently serves on the boards of CalciMedica, Synovex, Trinity Biosystems and NuPathe, Inc. Mike has an MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his residency training at Duke University Medical Center.

M. Amin Khan, PhD, President and Chief Scientific Officer, Director
Amin joined Trinity as CSO & COO in 2008. With more than 20 years of experience in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry, Amin has held senior level scientific and management positions, most recently with Eli Lilly and Company. His scientific work has focused on issues of drug absorption and optimization for small molecule compounds and bio-therapeutics. His R&D experience spans lead optimization, development and manufacturing sciences. Amin holds a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Nottingham, UK and a BSc (with honors) in biophysical sciences from East London University, UK.

Helen S. Kim, Director
Helen held various senior management positions in the biotech industry. Most recently, she served as Chief Executive Officer for TRF Pharma, Inc. Prior to TRF, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Kosan Biosciences where she created a successful exit strategy for Kosan through sale of the company to Bristol-Myers Squibb. She has held executive positions at Affymax, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Protein Design Labs (PDLI) and Chiron (now Novartis). She received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

René Kuijten, MD, PhD, MBA, Director
René joined LSP (Life Sciences Partners) in early 2001 as a general partner. He serves or has served on the supervisory boards of KuDOS (UK, acquired by AstraZeneca in 2005), DNage (NL, acquired by Pharming in 2006), OctoPlus (NL, IPO Euronext 2006), Kreatech (NL), Hybrigenics (F), BMEYE (NL) and Trinity (US) and has led LSP's investments in Morphochem (G, acquired by Biovertis in 2005) and Zealand Pharma (DK). René was a senior manager at McKinsey & Company in Amsterdam, Brussels and Zurich, and co-leader of the European pharmaceuticals and health care practice. René was trained as a medical doctor at the University of Utrecht, Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinics. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center. He is widely published and has received research awards from the World Health Organization and the International Union Against Cancer, and the Talma Eijkman Prize and the U-Gene Research Award for his scientific endeavors. He obtained his MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

Gail J. Maderis, Director
Gail is acting CEO of BayBio and is a consultant and board member of Five Prime Therapeutics, Inc., a privately held protein therapeutics company. From 2003 to 2009, Gail served as FivePrime's President and CEO, successfully funding the company's rapid growth through substantial private equity financings and corporate partnerships. Prior to FivePrime, Gail held senior executive positions at Genzyme Corporation, including founder and president of Genzyme Molecular Oncology (GZMO). Gail practiced management and strategy consulting with Bain & Co. She serves on the boards of BayBio, the Mayor's Biotech Advisory Council of San Francisco and the HBS Healthcare Initiative. She received a BS in business from the UC Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Peter McWilliams, PhD, Chairman
Peter has been a principal at Sanderling Ventures since 2000, assisting portfolio companies with set-up, strategy, project management, fund-raising and corporate development. He previously worked at Genentech where he was responsible for managing a pipeline of oncology products in clinical as well as preclinical development. Earlier positions included Booz Allen & Hamilton, consulting to multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the US and Europe, and at Oxford Molecular. He holds a PhD in chemistry from Princeton, an MBA from Columbia and a BA from Cambridge University.

S. Edward Torres, Director
Ed is a co-founder of Lilly BioVentures, and has led the investments in Conforma Therapeutics (acquired by Biogen Idec), Cabrellis Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Pharmion Corporation), Cylene Pharmaceuticals, Fluidigm, Serenex and Trinity Biosystems. Ed currently serves as a director on the boards of Serenex, Cylene Pharmaceuticals, Fluidigm and Trinity Biosystems. He has more than 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including domestic and international operational finance, planning, M&A, business development and global marketing roles. He was the founding CFO of Lilly Argentina. He received a BA from Creighton University and an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, where he was a consortium fellow.
